We have a 60 gallon DAS tank. In it is 60 pounds live rock and 110 pounds live sand. Also has 2 blue/green chromis, 1 blue reef chromis, 1 mccoskers flasher wrasse, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 branching hammer coral, 1 xenia (that needs trimming), 1 capnella, 1 sps and 1 small ricordia. We also want some black clownfish with host anemone.

Can we have seahorses in a tank with all these?

I expect not but the answer is always no unless you ask right?

Specifically its the clowns, anemony and the hammer coral. I do not know about chromis and horses.

In general you want non aggressive corals and fish in with your horses. Horses tend to be slow feeders and would not be albe to compete with the clowns for food. The anemone would lile your horses. Delicious snack for it! :eek1:

Are you willing to modify your choice of tank mates to accomodate seahorses?

I think I will be waiting until I upgrade my current tank to get some horses.
What do th ehorses require as far as environment if it is just a horse tank only?Sand? Live Rock? Corals?

seahorse should be in a species set up intended for them only. they are endangered so care should be taken to make the tank focused on them so if a fish/animal u want doesnt fit for a seahorse tank dont do it. focus on the horses and set up a community reef for that impulse. lol!seriously

They are not endangered. One species of seahorse (caps) are listed as endangered but the rest are not. Not even Weedy's.

Seahorses can be mixed with corals that do not hae a sting or sweeper tentacles. Also the hairy mushroom can swallow them hole. YOu need a lower flow environement. They are not the strongest swimmers so a strong jet stream can cause injury. Tankmates are best to be bentic or rock dwellers. Fast swimming tank mates will cause stress.

Yup. There is a really nice picture of one in Eric Bornemans Coral book with just the tips of a bangai cardinals tailfin sticking out.

Pledo. You should really talk to someone at seahorse.org about having Rhodactis removed from the list of safe corals for seahorses.
