What is a good shoal fish?

I've been wanting to add a school of fish that stay together and don't get too big. I've tried fire fish and they jump out. I've read that blue/green chromis will not school.

They may school if you have an aggressive tang or something to keep them together. I have a single green chromis and 3 lyretail anthias who mostly keep together, it's rather cute.

Threadfin cardinals stay small and will school in a pretty tight group. They have nice coloration under tank lights, but they're not the most active of fish.

Thanks, I've read on RC that chromis will only school in small groups and that after they get to spawning age they get territorial to others.
tryffin, I'm going to check out the Threadfin Cardinals, I want to have a large school of small fish and these guys sound good, have you ever ordered from The Marine Center? Do they have good service?

I'm sorry I've never ordered from them (or any mail order place.) I'm quite lucky that in Vancouver we have an excellent supply of marine fish, I guess because of our ties with Asia. Marine Centre carries alot of rare fish and I've heard other people on here have been happy with their service.

I just got a school of 6 threadfins on Saturday (I got them for $25 total, usually I see them for $8-15/ea.) I'm still trying to entice some of them to eat ... Cardinals like live food in the wild, but squirting food at them with an eyedropper seems to be helping... I think they'll be fine. They stay in a pretty tight group on one side of the tank, except for one brave little soul who always goes exploring on his own ... it's fun to see personalities in the different individuals when you have more than one of something.
