What is BEST qt treatment methods sps

Title says it all. I'm am in process of moving to a new larger display. I broke down 3 tanks full of sps and I want to prevent any pests from getting into new system. What's the best methods. What dip? How often? For how long?

Did first dip with Bayer at 1.5ml per 1 oz of aquarium water. All in qt now.

Following. Never quarantined corals before but lost a whole tank to AEFW this year. If I do it over again I'll do a full quarantine with all the recommended methods that will hopefully be outlined in this thread.

Bayer is the obvious. Interceptor as well? Is there any other treatment for any known pests beside those two?

I have always had success with coral rx for about 15 minutes.

When I get new sps frags, I dip in bayer and remount the frags onto new frag plugs. I also inspect them under a magnifying inspection lamp and place into qt tank for 2weeks to a month, periodically checking for any pest over that time span, if all checks out good into the display they go.

I've always done a good Bayer dip and scrub, as well as fresh frag plug placement of any and all incoming acros, even those from healthy, acro dense tanks, and somehow ended up with aefw. Kept having stn for months on everything. Seemingly healthy happy specimens and within a few weeks. PE stops, color turns to shyte, and stn claims the coral despite frequent clipping and re gluing. Took a couple months of close night time inspection from zoomed photos to see the dozens of bite marks all over every acro in the tank. Bayer works. But doesn't kill eggs, nor does it even kill flatworms. Just stuns them and causes them to release off the coral. Eggs hatch and fresh babies resume munching

I QT all my corals because I've gone through having both red bugs and AEFW. I'm not sure my method is best, but when I get a new coral, I cut it from the plug, dip it in Bayer, remount it to a new plug and place it into my coral QT. I then dip every 5-7 days for 4-6 weeks. Before the final dip, I again cut it from frag plug. After each dip I let the frag sit in tank water for about 5 minutes. So far this has worked well for me. The frags do lose color during this process but it always come back once placed in my frag tank or display.

Out of curiosity, why do you cut them from the plug?

Cause they lay the eggs at the base of the coral. No known product kills eggs.


Most of these methods are just a basic dip.

I have a qt setup and have already done the first dip. Does anyone know how many times I need to dip? For how many weeks? I can't cut them from there frag plugs cause most are colonies. So the eggs will hatch and I will keep killing them till they are all gone and before they can lay more eggs. That is if I even have any pests.

Personally I do not dip again unless I actually find pest in the next few weeks after the initial dip.
Also when buying sps, I only buy frags or mini colonies, they are much easier to examine for pest. If a local shop has a maricultured colony you want, ask them first if they are willing to cut a frag for you from it instead of purchasing the entire piece.

About 100 spa corals. That's a 6ftx30 inch frag tank packed from edge to edge. I agree that was my normal old rutein also but I am looking for something new that's a gurrentee that mother ever gets into my display
