What is closed loop?

May sound like a somewhat dumb question, but I have never seen one or read an explanation of what they are, what they do, advantages, disadvantages, etc..

My system is a 75g RR w/20g sump/fuge. Return pump is a mag9.5. Have 1xmaxijet 1200 and 2xmaxijet 900 for flow.

Could I benefit from a closed loop?

pretty much, it's a pump that circulates water inside the tank. It is not connected to a filter of any kind, just helps circulate the water. MAny times people use a pump that moves a lot of water & use several iintakes & returns so the actual flow per bulkhead isn't very high.

Does this run thru the sump like a "tee" off the drain with a separate pump. Or, does the pump set in the display and run outlets off that. I'm confused.

The pump is below the grey quick disconnect just to the right of center.

Now I understand. Thanks for the link. When I first saw it I thought I would paint the pvc black, then I noticed you did this. Looks like a nice clean job.

basically you need to have the water draw from the tank itself and return right back to the tank via several outlets, keeps you from having a bunch of pumps and cords hanging down in the water. Now the new vortech pumps are a nice way to go, its really a closed loop in a sense. all you see is a small prop and guard in the water. depends on how much room you have for an extra pump (has to be an external) and if you can lower your tank water and drill in a hole for the pump to draw, or bring in a pipe over the top and down into the tank for the pump to draw from.
