what is closed loop

benn reading alot about peeps switching over to these closed loop systems? what exactly is it and how do you go about setting one up etc. any links and info will be appreciated)

A closed loop is where a pump is used for circulation outside the tank, An external pump is plumbed with the suction side AND the outlet side in the main tank itself. Some folks use bulkheads or waterproof fittings to run an intake out of the tank and a couple returns into the tank near the top to increase flow within the tank. check out www.melevsreef.com and look for how he set one up without drilling the back of his tank.
