what is everyone using for salt mix

just as it states what is everyone using and what are your experiences with the product? Pros and cons please.

I'm using IO mostly and I have some Oceanic if I want to make adjustments during a water change. I don't have any complaints about either mix.

You are going to get a tone of different answers. I find that IO and RC are the most common used. I had issues with RC so I stopped using it. All salts I have tried have work just fine. I am about to open up a bucket of Seachem Marine salt so we will see how that is.

Careful bud. I read that salt composition thread and bought some SeaChem Marine as well. Alk was all over the place with each w/c. My sps browned out after switching (could be a number of issues, but this is just one more culprit).

I keep on going back and forth between IO and Salinity

I've become convinced it just doesn't matter. No matter what brand you ask about, there are thousands of people out there using it successfully, and a few horror stories about how somebody got a bad batch of it.

I'm currently using reef crystals, because it's cheap and does the exact same thing as the other more expensive salts I've tried.

I used to use rc as well but now that I have returned to the hobby I'm thinking about something different. Anyone have any exp with H2Ocean Pro+?

I was using RC but I decided to try something new that didn't have a chemical to remove metal in it. I'm about 3 months into using Red Sea salt and so far I like it. It dissolves faster than RC and doesn't have metal removing chemical in it. I can't say my reef is better or worse though. After I burn through the Red Sea salt I’m going to switch to Salinity. I saw some being mixed and was impressed with how fast it dissolved. Salinity also seems to be a tad bit stricter on testing their product before they release it.

It's hard to blame something on the salt mix alone. One thing is for sure....MIX YOUR BUCKETTS! Even the companies are stating you need to mix the buckets up due to the shipping process allowing the partials to separate inside the bucket.

I use IO and stick to it for consistency. Its easy to find: Everyone carries it. So if I need a water change in a hurry I can go to the corner Petsmart and grab a bag. Ive had no problems with IO.

I also use Instant Ocean Reef Crystals and have not had a problem at all with that I am aware of.

I was using Oceanic for over a year without problems until I started getting batches with low alk and mag. I now use Tropic Marin Bioactif, a little more expensive but I like it and my corals seem to also.

Its all matter of personal opinion, they all pretty much do the same thing. For the oceanic I would just adjust to my liking before doing a wc

Ive seen this this kind of thread to many times... I think its :deadhorse1:

I redid my 120g in december and started using salinity. I have had good success with it. All sps thriving an dtank looks great. Mixes easy and has the values measured right 0on the label from each batch. I'm not saying it is superior to any other salt, just my experience.

For many years I used a 50/50 mix of IO and Oceanic, the blend matched my tank parameters pretty close. Since I restarted the tank recently I have been using just IO and correcting it as needed. I will probably go back to the mix, it has worked pretty well for a long time.

I run my alk around 7.5 so I'm using regular Red Sea salt right now. IO, RC and Red Sea Pro, alk is way to High for mine...

ive used almost all the top brands, by far the worst redsea coral pro mixed murky white for me took two days to clear and left brown residue everywhere i didnt even use it, my fav was esv just didnt want to pay that much anymore. i get good prices on RC so i use that now havent had any issues

I used Red Sea Pro and when they reformulated the brand I didn't have good results at all. I am mixing 1/2 of the red Sea Pro with IO until I get rid of the bucket in my nano-reef. I exclusively use ESV B-Ionic Salt System on my main display. I love it. It mixes up beautifully each and every time. Parameters are great!!

Using red sea coral pro and have been for yrs and still getting great results in both the business and personal side.
