What is it? And is it ok???

So I ordered a duncan, their website said in stock, but they were out, so they sent this instead as an apology. I don't want to say what they called it because I would like it identified without any influence. Had it two weeks agressively fed on pieces of krill several times. Never looks much different than this, mouth open, no feeders out day or night time. Any input would be greatly appreciated. The duncan was to be my first LPS, and was much more familiar with its requirements, this one remains a mystery.

Wouldn't order from that vendor again. Where are you located? Duncan are pretty common corals, carried by many LFS as well as reefers who sell frags. Search "frags" in Craigslist for local sellers and try to see what you're buying vs mail order.

Nothing reputable within HOURS. Never dealt with private parties before. I just don't want to lose this one and HATE the idea that I am causing its degradation.

You didn't do anything wrong to kill that. That picture shows exposed skeleton/septa all over... the white radial "lines". They sent you a coral (a scoly) that they knew was on its last leg. Not only would I not do business with them again, I'd raise holy heck and get your money back - either through them or your credit card company. Not only did they not send you what you ordered, they offloaded something on you before it died in their tanks.

I'd probably have paid 5$ for that, and do daily iodine dips and pray it comes back to life!

Sorry for the loss =(

Remember to be gentle with fleshy LPS corals! The flesh is pretty delicate, and I've lost 3 of my first trachyphyllia brain corals to my stupid rough handling and damaging the flesh against it's skeleton.

On another note always start LPS on the sandbed, preferably in the shade. They can burn easily in new tanks especially when they're stressed like that.
