I have a noob question, i have this green hairlike algae growing on my sandbed, it looks like carpet, i was just curious as to what it is and if it is harmful or beneficial to my aquarium? thanks!

sounds to me like hair alage but without a pic can't be for sure. and it will come due to being a new tank just keep the water in check and will go away in time
