What is my star polyp doing?

This is the third or fourth time I've seen it do this in about a year. They are little red balls that are kind of attached together. I never saw this in my other tank so the first time it happened I thought something laid eggs. But now I kind of think it's just releasing waste. Have any of you ever seen this?

Its Spawning i think.
Do they do that? I thought star polyps just shot out "runners" and kind of took over.
It does look like eggs and at first I thought something else laid eggs in it. But I can't imagine what would lay them, plus the fish don't seem overly interested. i would think if they were eggs of some sort the fish would go crazy eating them.
