What is starfire, and what are the pros/cons?

I know it's a type of glass, but why would I want it?

it's almost as clear as acrylic. It won't have the typical green tint like regular float glass. It is a bit more expensive, however.

Some say it scratches easier and isn't as strong as regular iron content glass, but I don't buy that opinion.

Ahh but it is true.

We have a 105 with a starphire front. The difference is quite obvious between the two types when you look at the tank with water in it. The Starphire is much clearer. We haven't noticed it being any easier to scratch than regular glass, and as for strength, well, it keeps all the water in the tank, so it's strong enough.
For the clarity, I'd go with Starphire any day. Of course, we got a sweet deal on our tank, so, that helped make our decision.

I assume you can drill it? Or is it so expensive, you only want the panels you look through to be starfire?

It's just up to you. Some people go with Starphire all the way around. We just ended up with ours so it's only on the front. In all honesty we didn't set out to buy a tank with Starphire glass that day. It just kinda happened. I can't imagine any reason to have it on the bottom though so there's probably no need to worry about drilling it.
