I saw in volume 6 number 5 of Coral magazine that florida ricordea require moderate to high lighting for best growth and coloration, but in a previous thread it says they prefer lower lighting. Which is best?
Im experimenting this my self but from what locals have told me is: high light means good colors and growth but not the best expansion but low is slow growth but huge expantion dono if i agree with this yet but im trying to figure out myself
hey guys! here is my 2 cents, I bought two frags of florida rics about 3 years ago, i keep them at the bottom of my 75 gallon bare bottom, the flow is moderate and my lighting is 4 -55W 50/50 PC's. They have been growing and splitting like crazy since day 1. I have given away at least 20 to keep the population in control.
I have all of mine in mod flow and high light and get great expansion...Some are around 2''-3'' across....they are also in direct lighting of 250w 14k Hamilton SE supplimented with 2x24w T-5 actinics...

Could I keep ricordea at the bottom of a 24" tank with 96w PC's? Specifically, it's a 72"x18"x24" tank, with 4x 96w PC bulbs (not including the fact that there are technically 2 bulbs per PC "bulb". Hopefully that made absolutely no sense to anyone  ).
Thanks!

I have mine under 3 400W 14000K Ushio's (bottom of the tank - 28 inches down) and 4 39 watt high output 460 actinics, and, 4 39 watt high output 420 actinics. During the day, with all lights on, the colors are more subdued. In the evening, with only the actinics, the colors flouresce like crazy but the size of the rics decrease.
