What is the best red slime remover?

Then find out what causes the red slime, or else it will just come back.

Fidel

Yes and no. I treated once and it never came back. Do monitor whether it gets worse with each water change. If so, check your RO/DI and research if others have the same issue with the salt you are using -

We had the red slime problem. It was due to DT.

What is DT????

As for what causes the slime, it is my opinion that it is the bacteria from the ecobak. my PO4 is 0.041PPM on a checker and i am yet to detect any NO3 on any test kit.

I have read that the chemi-clean works by oxydizing the organics and you have to be sure not to drop the O2 level in your tank. It seems like it would be best to spread the recommended dose over a few days?

your thoughts?

How long have u been running the pellets? I did notice some and have a few small spots of it ill attribute to dying algae on my rocks.

Please excuse my brevity. This was sent from my Android via Tapatalk

A lot of users on the Zeovit forum report Cyno when 1st starting their version of Bak driven system. If you are running a Bak driven system, I would try other means 1st to eliminate the cyno. Cyno is a bacteria and i'm guessing that chemiclean is not selective in what strains of bacteria it eliminates.

Red Slime Remover?

Red Slime Remover?

Hi Orthokardia ; I have also used Chemiclean red slime remover and it worked . After a few weeks it would come back but only in small low flow areas. I purchased a Phosban Reactor and added the ferric oxide media to absorb the phosphates and it took care of the problem. Happy Reefing!!!!!!!!!

It is alway's better to eliminate the source of the Red Slime by means other than Chemicals, That being said blaming it on the Eco-Bak with no proof is not going to get you anywhere IMO you will alway's get outbreaks of RS in systems from time to time with or without Eco-Bak. If you are overfeeding before the EB has fully colonised you may try less food more direct flow at the area's where it is occuring and syphoning it out during water changes.
You were the one who said they wanted to use it and they say to ADD Air Stones as it reduces Oxegen in the tank with use. And if you do not follow the Directions and spread it out it will not work, Except to make your tank Imune to the product JMHO

We had an outbreak of Cyano that was so bad - every single rock was covered, the sand was covered - the entire tank was maroon. I spent a lot of time peeling it off the sand, wiping if off the rocks and crying...

We went the non-chemical route, at the suggestion/recommendation of a LFS owner. We stopped using all liquid foods, stopped using all food additives, increased flow significantly, reduced the time of the light cycle, reduced feedings and voila - it went away and has never returned. Thank goodness - it almost did me in!!!

I think the culprit might be poop built up behind the foam wall. I am not bashing foam walls, I love mine, but I did not follow directions and used the spray foam to adhear the wall to the glass instead of silicone. bad idea. I am going to remove the wall and the sandbed, just in case, when I get the poenix up and running.

So you named my old tank (Phoenix) To Rise From The Ashes! That's funny i Worked for a Co named Rising Phoenix once a long time ago, It was a Trucking Co that went broke and started from scratch again.

Bill - while I agree with you that EcoBak is not the DIRECT cause of the cyno the fact remains that a lot of people get cyno that never had it before when 1st starting a Bak driven system, be it Zeovit, EcoBak, NP Pellets, VSV, etc. I also agree that following the Mfg recommendations for amount, flow, supplemental O2, etc is very important in these types of systems.

With that said this cyno phase appears to pass and in my option forces the reefer to evaluate the root causes.

How old are my lights?
Do I have enough flow/dead spots?
Is my RO/DI really 0 TDS?
Should I clean this scum off my mixing containers?
Okay, i'll get back to regular water changes.
I think I'll vacuum this stuff up - wow look at all that "stuff" in my substraight that is coming out.
Man my sump is dirty... let's clean that up.
Etc, etc, etc.

In the end their tanks are probably better off for it...
