Used to be I could buy these guys for $1-2 a piece, now they are $12-18. Anyone know what is going on?

$1 -2? a couple years ago? Were these some cleaner shrimp that just so happened to fall off the back of a truck? ;)

Don't think they've ever been that low, infact they've always been fairly high $15-25 range.

Yeah.. a year ago, the cheapest place I can find sold them for $8-$10. Too bad that store has a new owner and the price has been doubled since then. :(

oi, what has happened in the last couple o years to make it so nuts??

If only we had figured out the last step to get the babies to mature when we had them breeding in our tanks... Could retire off cleaner shrimp. sheeesh

natural disasters

Up until recently, I worked in wholesale MOI for nearly 10 years. In those 10 years, cleaner shrimp prices never climbed, and we sold them wholesale for around $8. Peppermints went for $1 - $2 wholesale. The prices your quoting as seeing, are just in line with what I've always known to be their retail cost.

The natural disasters didn't help, but that's not why such a high price. EU and Asia are my friends. EU pays wholesale around $8 per Peppermint.

Aquatraders in San Bruno always has good deals on shrimp. I just quarantine them to make sure they're in good shape. I got some cool sarons there for 3 for 12.

Jonah how does that place work? I know it's kind of a fish it yourself place, but I"ve never seen nets, containers or anything else, and most importantly never seen a price!

If you just go to the front counter, they have a ton of buckets and nets. Their stock changes so quickly that its best to ask about price.
