What is the grey powder

looking stuff (nice proffessional description) on my mechanical fitler pads it mostly rinses off. I am assuming it has something to do with my CA reactor

Am I doing something wrong?

All the numbers seem right on I noticed I usually get a week out of my sock but only got 4 days till plug?????

The only thing I changed recentley was lower the effluient to 6.6 from 6.7 could that be it I thought most were running it at 6.6

Are you sure the grey matter has to do with your Ca reactor.... or could your aquarium be maturing? I've never associated it with my calcium reactor. When I see grey powder it's always been detritus. Poop. The end of the circle of life. Get rid of it ASAP.

Well I am not sure

It did all rinse off. The tank looks perfect! It was just something I never saw.

I agree with the salinity .023 is a bit on the low end for corals.....024-.026 is usally the normal
