what is the most silent pump

I need to replace three pumps and am looking for input on what the quietest ones are. I am replacing a Sequence, Hammerhead and Blueline 100. All of which were quite 6 yrs ago when they were install, but time has made them a bit noisy and I am sure pumps have improved since then. So thoughts...anyone

for pressure rated i used to use velocity t-4 they were very quite but i dont think they make em anymore... im using the pan world (yellow and black iwaki knock offs) fairly quiet for a pressure type pump. If you have $$ the red dragon pumps are probably the quietest.

the big sequence pumps are always fairly noisy just due to the water volumes.

if you want a big iwaki japanese 100 have one for $150 its not silent as it can pump 2000gph, or against 70 feet of head pressure,or have a nice flow from a basement to main floor tank.

Look into Reflo Blowhole pumps also. They are external pump with small foot print and exceptionally quiet and efficient.

Eheim compact+ has a very mild hummmmmmm. It's fairly quiet IMO.

I found that the external pumps, especially the Blowhole needs so much more power than the internal. I'm not sure why.

I just got a Laguna 2900. The new version was around $200. 2900 gph at around 80 watts. Pretty quiet without water, I'm guessing water will make it completely silent. A comparable Blowhole takes 220 watts.

you can't beat the blowholes - I run two of them - they are super silent. Can't even tell they are running unless you touch them. I have used other reeflos and also run a iwaki - no comparison.

The laguna does not appear to be a pressure rated pump (unless the one I found on amazon was different than what you got) - you cannot compare a non-pressure rated pump to a pressure rated pump. They are totally different. The blowhole is very efficient for a pressure rated model.

Could you explain that? I was looking at statistics on the Laguna and at 6 feet it was pushing 2200 gph, which is right where I needed it to be. Now if you need 30 feet, Laguna won't cut it. But we're getting off topic of the OP.

We are getting off topic - sounds like you found a pump that will work for you. I sent you a pm.

I wasn't saying the Laguna was a bad choice - its just different and you cannot compare as they both have their intended uses.

The Sequence is pushing a bio tower on a Koi pond, the Blueline is the return and the Hammerhead a closed loop for a 4' cube. Pumped vertically 15 feet from basement to tank. Pretty much need to match the pumps I am replacing for HP and FR.

Are the Red Dragons really worth the extra cash?

Rob, I would probably stick with what you got. Avoid the Reeflo gold ... IME all hype no benefit. But you won't find better for what you need.

Ihave no experience with RD and don't want to. $$$$

I'm still using my ehiem 1260 (75 gal) & 1262 (210 gal). Silent, and I hardly ever clean them, maybe once a year, IF I'm lucky. I used to have the typical skimmer pump for my skimmer, but after 3 of them, I went eheim a few years ago. Expensive, but never fails. I should have made that switch the first time and saved money. It's the same pump as the return, just a needle wheel. Really a rip off, and I'm sure there are pumps that pull more air, but it works for me.
