What is the Onyx color morph?

I do not understand what the Onyx color morph is. Are they simply just a morph of True Perculas, or do they come from a certian area of the reef. More over can these come from simply two True Perculas who may carry the color morph gene. I am curious because I own two wild caught true perculas and I'm wondering if they have offspring if one, if not more, could possibly be an Onyx color morph.

To qualify as TRUE onyx color morph, the true percula has to to be
(1) full black body area between first bar and second bar
(2) full black body area between second bar and third bar

fins, head & tail can be orange or black, but those in-between body areas has to be jet black.

The three bars must be connect by black coloration. Some people also require the dorsal fin must be black also.

can these morphs arise from simply two "normal" true percs?

depending on how black the parents are, if they aren't too black, dont bet on it.

If they are already close to onyx coloration (like missing a little part), it's easier.

But in general,it's a no.

I have noticed in wild pictures that the percs in S. gigantea anemones tend to have much more black than percs in H. magnifica. There is certainly a genetic component, but I wouldn't be surprized if there was an environmental component as well.

So is there a way, through selective breeding (through several generations) to make a black morph that would be an Onyx clowfish?

if you really wanted to go that path, you will have better luck getting onyx parent or percs from solomen island (much darker).

but my estimate is 3-6 years at a mininum.

I believe the original onyx morph was selective bred from C-Quest
