I have not been around for a bit and I know that ursny is now water under the bridge but was curious what if any is our current connection to the zoo tank?? Does someone from the group still do maintenance on it. I was at the zoo on sunday and well.. didn't we used to have SPS in there? just checkin to see if we're still connected to it.
Also, it still seems like that would be the prime place to have a meet, and do maintenance and possibly make any additions.
there is a lot I don't know so... please excuse me if I am rousing a touchy subject.

last I knew, Mark R. (puter on RC) is the URS/Zoo liason caretaker.

URSNY never had anything to do with the SPZ reef aquarium (directly) although there was a forum specifically for the zoo aquarium on another website.

I believe Puter is still taking care of it. Definately interested in knowing feedback on potential meets there as well. Haven't been to see it in a while...

haven't been there in a year...that's too bad. My son loves that tank (i try not to tell him it's really not a very good tank....)

The zoo tank is in the midst of a "slow" reboot intended to get rid of the many pests (Aiptasia, red bugs, flatworms, etc.) that have been problematic for years. I've pulled all of the corals that were struggling and will be pulling and cleaning (bleach & muriatic acid) all of the rock, in shifts over the next several months. That's a pretty radical treatment, but the tank has been running for a number of years now and a good cleaning now may help avoid the "old tank syndrome" that seems to plague older tanks.

In the meantime, the anemones and fish have continued to thrive (Roc, I think you're misinformed about any losses). There will be a strict quarantine process imposed on future additions to the tank and, once the "reboot" is finished, I'm hopeful this tank will begin to live up to its potential.

Come summertime, there will probably be a number of opportunites for interested URS members to again help out with the tank.

Cheers,

Mark

I have more free time than I know what to do with.. teach 8-2 m-f.... LMK I live VERY CLOSE so if you were ever in a situation where you needed an extra hand on short notice you can put me down for you mobile shoutout. I'll P.M. you my number.

I remember when that tank was absolutely awesome! Your right puter, the clowns, tangs, and foxface along with the anenome's are thriving still. The coraline growth in there is INSANE. It's actually formed shelves. I kind of felt like it needed a bulb change as the lights were visibly duller than I remember.
