What is this? Aiptasia?

Hey--
I just registered here at Reef Central. I used to be a member years ago but can't remember my old login info.

Anyhow, my husband and I started a nano reef this past weekend so are at the very beginning of our cycling process. We added one small piece of live rock (to the other cured rock), and this is what I see today. Is this Aiptasia?

Thanks in advance for any help with identification!

Thanks for the replies. I guess now the fun begins? Should at get rid of it now?

And regarding my embedded link, I don't know what I did wrong but I think the issue is at my website's end. I'll have to work on that.

I definitely would...

If the rock that it's on can be removed with ease you could take a small butane torch or a cigarette lighter and burn it off. This only takes a few seconds to do. The rock will become a little scorched, but this usually rubs right off with some water.

Can I pluck it off with tweezers? I'm sure the answer is "no" but it seems like I should be able to. :) I guess we will try to lighter trick. Thank you!

Get an insulin syringe and inject it with .5ml of vinegar. Will end its existence. Other options take a blob of glue paste for gluing corals and smother over it and that will take care of it.

Depending on where it is on the rock you can try to dip that corner in boiling water for a minute. If the rock is small enough and you're not worried about other life on the rock then you can just drop the whole piece in. Just be aware it will kill anything around the area you boil. Purple coralline will turn a weird greenish grey color.

A small .5lb chunk of LR I got from my LFS had about 5 tiny aipstasia and after a week there were about 12 on the same rock, so I risked killing everything on the rock and dropped it in boiling water for a little over a minute. No signs of aipstasia after a month.

I'm killing it tonight well, I'm going to make my husband do it. I know I sound like an eejit but it makes me feel bad to kill it. Ha! I want it out of the tank though so I know what has to be done.

Others have suggested DIY options which are great. You can also purchase some aiptasia X which will kill them for sure. The only downside is it's spot treatment, so if you miss some they will continue to come back. That's what aiptasia X coupled with peppermint shrimp could help :)

Is it too soon to get a peppermint shrimp? I'm only in Day 4 of my cycling process.
