what is this coral and what's it worth?

It's on sale on CL but he wants an offer. What is it and what would be a reasonable price?

Plate coral. Worth nomore than 90 in the midwest depending on color/size.

I'd offer him $40 and pay no more than $60, but that's just how much the coral would be worth to me.

Short tentacle plate coral(Fungia). I typically see them in my neck of the woods anywhere from 50$ to 120$, depending on size and color.

Wow are corals in america that expensive? I pay at most $5 for these fungia and sometimes even less than a dollar

Yeah, that's a typical price in the US. some places carry some cheap $5-25 frags (my personal favorite) but a colony or decent sized anything will typically run $50+ depending on the color/type/and size.

A little lesson in econ. That coral is worth whatever you and the seller agree on. Sure do the research and get some ideas, but it comes down to - is the amount of money on the coral or something else, or rather have the money in my pocket than in the tank. If you are happy to get the coral and he is happy to get the money it was a fair price.
