I felt I was getting a good deal on this piece in Chicago and paid 65 dollars for becasue is a very beatiful red but it does not seem to like my tank. Do I need to feed it? Water parameters are good except nitrates are 2-5ppm which does not seem to be affecting any other of the corals.

Thx Scott

See the areas that died on Left side. The dissappeard in 3 days.

Appears to be a branching Lobophyllia sp. Theyre usually pretty sturdy, so Im not 100% what the issue is. I would double check water params, esp. KH, pH and Phosphate levels.
Is the white ring around the living polyps sand, or does it look a little more organic than that? Appears to have some kind of infections, something similar to "white band disease" seen in Acroporids..?

Its a lobo and it looks like you have a cyano problem so your phosphates and other parameters are likely off. Lobos are pretty hardy. I would do several water changes over the next few weeks to get your parameters back in line.
