What is this coral?

This started out as bid as a fingernail and has grown this big in a couple of months.

Some type of encrusting Montipora (Monti) a type of SPS would be my guess.

What is this coral?

Could it be a sponge? Looks a little weird to be a Monti.

Too many little holes everywhere. And the big holes.

I just went and touched it, soft...I guess it may be sponge but it is thin and also in pretty bright light.

I'm kinda leaning towards an encrusting sponge as well.

Do you know if they do well in light? It looks good and is at the top of my tank. I've had small sponges before but this one is growing fast.

If it's growing fast it's probably in a good place.

I had one like that that was an encrusting leather coral---used to get ticked off and turn purple. And when it was ticked, wasn't nobody happy, no. Carbon would solve it. I finally fragged it with a rubber band and a lot of carbon in the water.
