What is this fish?

Saw this at the kids Dr. this morning and loved it. I didn't actually study it closely but I hope it isn't a Damsel of some kind.

It's difficult to tell, but I'm almost positive it's a damsel of some kind. It sort of looks like a Blue Sapphire Damsel, but I can't really tell. Hopefully an expert could chime in...

I just looked that fish up and it did not look like that. I checked the google images and live aquaria and it was not like the Damsel.

I do not think it is a Jewel Damsel from comparing pix.

The colors were so bright and awesome.

I was gonna ask the office staff but they don't maintain the tank. I have to go back next week so i will find out someway, somehow if I don't by then.

They have a 6 inch at least, Blue Hippo in there, probably for the kids to see Dory and I want to say something so bad because the tank is like 4 feet wide like a 90Gal or a large 55.

My wife asked if i joined PITA hahaha. I just felt that was mean I guess after talking to many people.

Hi ... it definitely appears to be a damsel, perhaps something from Chrysiptera or Pomacentrus. It's hard to tell from the picture, but if the neon blue coloration is patchy as it appears in the pic, then the specimen may have some sort of condition affecting the luminescence of the scales. It might also be a Stegastes rectifraenum that is partway through the maturation process as they lose their juvenile coloration reportedly in patches.

Odds on guess though is that it is a very well fed Chrysiptera cyanea.

Yeah I was looking through the Damsels and the shape is that of a Damsel.

It does look exactly like the photo. I tried to get it but it wouldn't stop moving so I had to time it.

Too bad though I will not buy any more Damsels even though I like them.

Just like to note that there were no light on in the tank when I took this photo and no flash on the phone so that is a very bright fish and the colors look exactly like the photo.

These were listed as "false yellowtail damsels" by my LFS supplier. I ordered 25 for one my eel tanks to see what they were. There were huge variations in color from fish to fish, from nearly black to metallic blue and they seem to change shades based on their mood. They are incredibly aggressive.

Pomacentrus caeruleus is the latin name thru google but a fair amount of different damsels come up in the image search

This was the average look of the ones I received.

I got 6 or 7 of the metallic blues but the eel ate them first.
