what is this growing on my SPS?

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
kind of looks like gets. this is the second one on this coral and the only place I have seen it. the other one is a bit larger but because of location I can't get a pic of it. it has been on there for months. corals looks fine I don't see anything wrong with it. I have had it for years. it is a large blue tip stag. I crushed the first pack up trying to manually remove and they came back same spot and now nice and round again.

here is a pic of it clear/white looking balls on the stag.

here is a pic of the main piece in question. the blue tips don't show up in the pic but all the white tips are bright blue in person under 20K MH

Really interesting and thanks for sharing the pics rogergolf!
Good thing that it's not harming the coral!

When you crushed it,did anything come out of there?
Could it be the skin of the coral itself?

Nothing came out of it seemed soft. Didn't meant to crush it. I had thought it was going to be hard like bubble algae and could pluck them off but they popped/crushed instead

Well here's my two cents worth it looks like some type of Egg take a straight pin in poke if it's soft well guess what. Is it possible to take that piece out of the tank and get the if you can I would do that. Phil

I've got the same thing on a Red Planet Acro colony. mine cover about a 1" area . It's not an uncommon occurrence but not much info out there that I can find.

Some people believe it has something to do with high Magnesium levels, whch is not the case for me.

It doesn't seem to bother anything and the affected coral is healthy other than these "blisters". Following along in case anybody has some further information.

I must have been half asleep when I wrote that. Does it look like its part of the coral. Can you see skeleton under it if rubbed off?

Did those bubbles ever go away for you? Just found this thread when searching for info about sps skin bubbles. A good number of corals in my tank started having their skin bubble up a couple of weeks ago.

Looks like the Sps has filled itself with water and this is the end result. I have seen this happen and is very common. The only problem is that this happens with alk swings and the sps doesn't usually make it unless water quality is really up to par.
