So I have had a tank for a while but due to wife, kids, school, work and everything else in life I got a "little" behind on maintenance. Anywho, I was cleaning it for the first time in a while and saw this pretty big looking thing. Anyone help me figure out what it is?
Yeah better pictures for sure. Looks like bubble algae in the second pic on the left side. Unless it's all the same thing and that is what you are referring to....
This is the best I can do right now. It is to the left of the snail. Almost dead center. There are some tube looking branches coming from it in some parts. You can see one or two of them in the background a little. The whole thing is a bluish green color
Personally I'd through it in the sump refugium if you have one. Then just prune a handful on occasion if it grows too fast. It's a macro algae and will help keep phosphates in check.
It is definitely grape caulerpa and I'd be inclined to get rid of it. Caulerpa tends to suddenly die off releasing all sorts of nutrients into the water.
If pruned constantly, caulerpa can be a nice addition to a display. If left unchecked, it will easily take over your tank. Beware...it can go "sexual" and nuke your tank.
