What is this red wiry stuff? Should I be afraid?

It came in on the small rock that the green acro to the right was attached to, and now it's starting to show up in some other places in the tank. I'd hate to think it would cover all open rock areas!

Anybody got any ideas?

I've got 8 or so hermits in the tank (scarlet leg and blue leg, I think.) I haven't seen any of them on this stuff yet. Snails occasionally, but no hermits.

I read bad things about Sally Lightfoots. (lightfeet?) Not sure I would want to go that way!

you might want ot try a seahare. there are pros and cons for inverts. hermits imo inefficient when it comes to algae removal. they tend to eat snails that eat this stuff also.

Thanks. Maybe I'll get a hare and set it right on the stuff.

I've now removed the rock that you see in the photo. It was directly under the MH light. There are several patches in other places, though.

A 3-4'' sea hare will take care of that in about 5min.
