What is this stuff smothering my Zoas?

I have what appears to be some kind of sponge growing on my zoas. Anyone have a proper ID and a way to get rid of the stuff?

Could be sponge. I had some on a rock that was starting to take over some of my zoas. There was something else bugging them as well, I took it out, exposed the coral to air, dipped in coral rx and the sponge and the other thing that was bothering them went away and the zoa is happy now.

I think exposing sponge to air will cause it to die off. Just something to try and I believe in general its pretty harmless.

I don't see it directly harming my tank, other than how it's preventing my zoas from opening. I'll try the air exposure and CoralRx dip in the morning and see how it goes

it's a sponge.
i get the same type, just reach in and tear/pluck it off. (gloves if needed)
i have to do it every 3-4 months or so

Encrusting sponge. You need to rip it off or expose it to air for a few minutes. Could also add fish that love sponges like an angel.
