I was out of town for a week, My Wife fed the fish while I was gone. She knows how too as well as how much, so no over feeding here. and when I returned she said it appeared with in the last two days. its a thin layer of greenish Blue ? and it looks like a thin blanket with holes in it . It is aloft ontop of the sand ever so lightly. STRANGE.

1. What is it.
2. What caused it.
3. How do I get rid of it.

its green cynoabacteria. treat as you would the red.

OK, I will..........
Oh Yea...............How do you treat the RED!!!

the most common problem cyano comes from is excess nutrients in the water. first check your nitrates, and phosphate. although test can sometime be misleading as you may get a 0ppm reading from the cyano consuming them as fast as they are produced. start by looking at what, how much, how often you feed the tank. look at how much your lights are on. if you have a skimmer, is it working properly, and is it big enough. how often are you doing water changes? these can all lead to problems.

for removal, syphon out what you can when doing water changes. blow it off the rocks right before you start syphoning out the water, and get as much out that way as you can. once you get whats feeding it taken care of it will stop growing back.

and google is your best friend :D.
