What is this?? (Suspected Aiptasia)

Been out of the hobby for some time, but recently got back in with an innovative marine 25 gallon lagoon.. Love the tank so far, and was looking at it today, and noticed something growing on my live rock...





looks like very young aiptasia to me.. but wanted a second opinion before I pulled the rock out and went nuts on it.

so these guys grow almost as annoyingly as aiptasia though right? they are on an island piece of rock, should I put some coral on that rock soon to keep these guys from taking over?

Do a search for "Palys or Palythoa Coral" and you will be re-directed to "Button Polyps". Button Polyps/Palys/Zoanthids - Same jeans, different T-shirt.

But to answer your question, "Yes". Palythoa Colony Polyp Corals are extremely invasive, and they also pack a potent sting. If you place coral on that same rock, IME, the Palys always win. So if you want to keep those Polyps, then you need to just isolate the rock, and let them do their thing. If you don't want that rock to be covered with those Polyps down the road, then you might go ahead and kill them now. You can inject them with lemon juice; smother them with Kalk paste; or cover them up with epoxy putty.

Yeah I had a hard time getting rod of them. I used aiptasia x and it finally did of them. They Grow really fast.

Wear gloves and eye protection whenever dealing with them. Palytoxin is something you really DO NOT want to deal with!!

This is my arm 1 week after tearing down my 60 cube during the upgrade to my current 120DT. Admittedly this was a rather extreme exposure - my arm was rubbing against them off and on for a good 15-20 minutes while I was in there, but it still cost me a trip to the Urgent Care, my PCP, and a week off work (I work in an operating room and let's just say that a surgical scrub just wasn't gonna happen!)

This happen about 5 years ago - I still have the scars to remind me.

And there is not a Palythoa anywhere near my tank!!!
