I have no idea what this is. I was looking at an ID website and I think the closest thing I saw was mushrooms... but they had an unusual shape, unlike this one. What is this?

It opens up in the daytime

Irrelevant to the topic, but how do I feed this? Also, how do I feed my coral?

Yeah, star polyps, also called daisy polyps.

Clove polyps is used to refer to coral species in the Clavularia genus.

Thanks Haks. I have seen GSP classified as Clavularia viridins also, though (I have them on my own site as Pachyclavularia). Would you happen to know if this is because of old classification schemes?

Both Clavularia and Pachyclavularia have similar growth forms, so they are mistakenly switched around. Pachyclavularia violacea, is the correct name.

Yes, they will need moderate flow to keep any algae from growing on the mat. Which, will inhibit the polyps from opening if it does take a foothold.

If you have actinic lights then if you put them on they will turn green. I bought a small rock a couple of weeks ago coverd in them and if my actinics arent on then their brown.

this is one of my favorite corals. you can rip chunks of it off the rock and superglue them to other rocks - they grow extremely fast. I've seen some people glue them to the glass even :)

Ouch!

Can I do that?

Yes. You can use a razor blade or scissors to cut off part of the mat. Then glue it onto the surface you want.
