It looks like the shell goes all the way down the creature. Maybe a chiton?

Definitely a Chiton. They have 8 segmented shells called valves that kind of look like seperated armor and there are 940 known current species. Many of them look different (colors etc..) But all have the segments. (There are also another 430 fossil species that no longer exist)
