Me thinks he might be talking about what looks like red planaria.
 
You've got the red planaria flatworms going on, and that snail could be as harmless (indeed, beneficial!) as a Nassarius, or as risky as a whelk ... it's not one I've seen before, and I don't know its feeding habits.

That's not planaria. And the snail is a nassarius. Excellent snails for sand bed. I have about 15 of them in mine. They sell for about $2.95 a piece
 
I never debunked it. Also never heard of a nass snails killing anything so you are likely right.
