What is this?

Hope you are right. That I can deal with. My Nitrates are still a little high at 10 but my Phosphates are 0 and my chaeto is not growing. The balancing act continues.

All of that should be expected with a new tank..
The ugly stages (diatoms, green hair and film algae and even cyano) are normal and usually just go away with time and good husbandry..

I remember all of that but it has been several years since I started a new tank so I suppose I put it out of my mind. I just don't want to deal with things like dino which are next to impossible to irradiate.

I don't think bad cases of dinos are that common at all..

For some reason there seem to be quite a few posts here and there about them and that "fear" has just become legendary..

That is good, but given the fact that I have had 4 cases of cancer, all different, I am always worried something will happen to me. Fortunately, I have beat all of them.
