And more importantly, is it harmful in a reef tank? This little snail was crawling around my 155 gallon reef and since I have no idea what kind of snail it is I removed it for a photo op. Hopefully someone will know what it is? it is about twice the size of a grain of rice. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Tracy

I am no snail expert but for now do not touch it, I may be way off but that may be a baby cone snail, which can be extremely venomous (better safe then sorry, right?)

It's a marginellid, possibly a darkly colored "peppermint snail." Most of the family feeds on small inverts, but some are scavengers.

Thanks- with a key word search on google Images for Marginellidae and peppermint snail I found some that look alot like what I have from called Hyalina albolineata. Might not be exactly right though- I am not great at that. general web search info said reef safe and detritovore- whew! I will put it back in the main display. Thanks again

Cheers,
Tracy
