What is wrong with this forum?

You guys posts are all so helpful as well! which is exactly the point i was making..

You should search this site for all our help post, before you speak. that's my .02. Happy reefing. not going to bother responding to any of your negative posts.

Thanks for posting some awesome pics guys. All the polyps posted look great!

Cloak, was that pic taken after or before you removed the polyps that had pox? Beautiful little tank! Thanks for posting the pic. Got anymore info on the tank?

By the way no one has bashed or belittled anyone. And if you don't have anything to add to the topic please find another one, everyone has their own opinion and feelings. If someone is anoyed with the way the forum has become they are allowed to post how they feel. Even if others dont feel the same way.

Man I love this site but I am noticing the ZOA forum is lacking. No one posts their tank pictures of nice ZOA's EVER. There are constantly post after post after post of people needing help with their zoa problems, which is fine but mostly only a few help. And thoes few are amazing for putting their time in to help people on the forum almost daily.
Does no one keep ZOA tanks and want to share? Seriously that's what makes a forum fun right? Pics, then conversation about certain tanks. From that conversation comes learning also.
I am not one to talk because I have yet to update our new tank with a new thread yet but things are taking way longer to aquascape and its hard to find time. We even got a porthole picture box and a new 100mm macro lens. But the pics are coming, and with it I hope people who have ZOA tanks will post their pics as well. Even of old tanks they had who cares! Make some threads!

Happy thanksgiving!

This was my topic. I hope people share more, that's what we are all here for. Thanks to everyone who posted pics, hopefully more people will share some info on their tanks and how they keep nice polyps. And in their own thread would make it easier for good conversation :)

Here's an older picture. I had an outbreak of zoa pox though and didn't know what to do. I panicked and ripped out about 75% of them. :(

Beautiful zoa garden! I have a question. What happens when the rock is completely covered with different zoa colonies. Do they start killing each other, dominant one covers it all? or do they stop when they meet?

it looks like you have several huge colonies on one rock. Did it become that way naturally or did you have to trim and organize?

Usually they would start intertwining, but I would just rip out what I could with some tweezers to maintain distinct borders. In some cases though they would just stop. There were never any problems with one variety killing another.

Most of those colonies started out as small frags, (2 or 3 polyps) so what your seeing grew naturally, but there was definitely a lot of pruning going on.

Im to heartbroken to contribute anything to this forum.90% of my colonies died for no apparent reason... Big healthy established colonies..

I've had very aggressive growing Z's and P's actually grow on top of other polyps therefore smothering them. Pink and Golds are good examples of very agressive growers.

Seems like the zoa forum is stuck at the same stop where it was 6 years ago when I had a tank. The science of Zoas and palys has been long gone. Still seems that the name game and price checks are still the importance.

Red hornets still going for 300.00 a polyp?? Lol

Any event good to see some of the old forum people still posting. Cool pics :smokin:

I had a 1' colony of these but broke it up. They glow like nuclear ZOA's under LEDs! They are beautiful. I did keep a small colony to grow out again :). They are so bright, but best under LEDs which I won't be using again.

i had these under t5s and they still melted, that picture is taken under a ati 8 bulb fixture, i really loved those zoas and tried everything to keep them from vitamin c to target feeding to keeping the tank under 78 degrees, i still couldnt do it, yet every other zoa was striving go figure.

Had these in my tank for around 6 weeks now, growth is phenomenal, before and after shots of when I first got them to now, under T5 and LED. Never bothered with the names, just love the colours.

Going back to the OP, here are a few suggestions. I'm a newbie, and could care less about zoas(don't kill me!). From what I've seen, maybe somebody should post a "Let's see your Zoanthid pics" thread. Another problem might be price. I can get plain brown zoanthids for $5, or pay hundreds for a small colorful frag. If price goes down, then interest goes up. The toxins are also a problem, because who honestly would keep something poisonous (not venomous) in their aquarium? Not a first-time reefer. There's also the SPS craze that means that people will gravitate towards the more popular corals, as opposed to the expensive, less colorful, less "reef-like" zoanthids. Just my two cents here.

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to be a troll, and if I cause offense, then I sincerely apologize.

but who honestly wants plain brown zoanthids. palytoxin is only in a small variety of palythoa that doesnt mean you should go boil a rock of zoas but unless you get it in your bloodstream somehow you should be ok :bounce3:
