I've been slacking on proper maintenance lately, and have a ton of algae growth. I can't determine whether it's diatoms or brown slime algae. A little help would be appreciated. I currently only have 1 clownfish in my 29g tank. Thanks so much.
Coral angels also eat hair algae, correct?! I'm thinking about adding one of those to keep it at bay once I get it cleaned up some, as well as some snails.
What are the results of your nitrate and phosphate test results?
What are you doing now maintenance wise to address it?
All one really needs is to perform enough water changes to get nitrate and phosphate numbers low and the algae will die/go away..
When it gets that bad there isn't much that eats it..
You may just want to manually remove one rock each day and scrub it with a toothbrush for 10-15 minutes each in a mix of 50% old tank water + 50% hydrogen peroxide. Then just rinse it off and put it back in the tank..
Do that plus get back to proper maintenance and problem solved..
I took about 35% of my rock out last night and did that. I'm going to do another 35% today. I haven't tested my nitrates, because I know they're going to be high. I also added carbon to my filter. How many times a week do you recommend 30% water changes to get it down? I started with a 30% water change last night.
