What kind of anenome can I have?

I would love to have some type of anenome for my clown in the future, but I heard that certain types will kill other corals? Are there any that I can get that will be safe for my corals? Do they have special needs as far as feeding? What about lighting (I run 2x96w PCs)? Sorry for all the questions, just starting out and want to make sure that I don't get something that is not compatible with my tank.

Thanks, Jen

Oh, I have a 65g

Nems as a general rule are pretty hard animals to keep and require a lot of research until you feel comfortable you can meet their specific needs...there are not too many IMO that are suited to being kept under PC's (PAR output on PC's just isn't very good)...if you're looking for something that will host your clowns, I would look for a large fuzzy mushroom or even a frogspawn coral or similar...IMO those would be better choices for your setup.

Thanks, I didn't realize that I could get something other than an anenome to host my clown. That would be great until I can upgrade my lighting. I would definitely like to have one in the future, I have always thought that anenomes are absolutely beautiful and interesting to watch.

BTA's will do well under that light, but they do tend to wander.
All nems will sting and kill corals if they touch.
Frogspawn, hammer and such are great alternatives.

Some clowns will also use toadstool leathers (Sarcophyton spp.) as hosts, especially the long-polyped varieties. My pair of Clark's had a toadstool "anemone", and I've seen lots of videos of percs and ocellaris doing the same.

for those suggesting LPS species such as Torch, Hammers, Frogspawns, (and also hairy mushrooms).. Have you found that the 'pairing' results in damage to either the coral or the fish? I've read of a few instances where either the coral gets bothered or the fish show an adverse reaction.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the somewhat thread hijack.

Lol, no prob here. I'm interested to learn as much as I can.

I've heard of corals sometimes being unhappy being a host, but I think it's rare...my daughter had a pair of Ocellaris a while back and a BTA...although the clowns took to the nem they spent as much or more time in a large frogspawn...given the difficultly in keeping nems, I think this is a very viable option if you're not comfortable in knowing you can meet the needs of a nem...I have a pair of Ocellaris in my 125 that currently don't host in anything (there is a nem, a huge frogspawn, a hammer, and several other options)...I know many folks don't think of mushrooms because many typical species are "flat", but there are some "hairy" varieties that look very similar to nems...like this one:
