What kind of Carpet is this?

I picked this guy up over the weekend from a shop that was closing for $30. He has a blue base and I can kinda see some purple spots towards the top and is the size of a racket ball / baseball. He had it in his display for 2 mos. and was shutting it down. He hasn't opened fully since I put him the tank and kinda looks like this full time. I know he needs some work, but would like to know what species he is, so I can place him properly in the tank sand or rocks.

Haddoni or Gigantae?

Thanks

Gigantea. It's severely bleached, but since it's been in captivity for 2 months, I wouldn't worry much about an infection. Looks like it just needs more light and food. 30 bucks is a steal. Nice pick up. Once it's 100% I expect it to look more like the gig in my avatar.

Make sure you accommodate him with max random flow. I have a 30x30 cube and thought 1 mp40 and my return would be fine. Well now I run 2 mp40s at 70% and may even add more lol. I also see you placed yours on the sandbed. They do prefer to be in the rock work.

Gig is starting to get brown tips. Will he lose his purple?

Good or bad?

zooxanthellae repopulating the anemone is a good thing, the purple tips will remain purple.

+1.

Keep in mind that the purple may not appear as vibrant because it will be against a brown background instead of a white one (everything is more vibrant against white). But brown means zoox which means healthy gig and that's what you want.

so it's natural for bleached carpets to show brown first before their color? I picked up a half bleached green haddon, and now it's showing some brown too

Bleached carpets are typically white plus the color. If there is no color, then the carpet will most likely be brown or beige. In other words, they don't "color up" after the zoox population returns.

Your half bleached haddoni will become brown and green. And the green color will remain the same -- if it's army green it'll stay army green and won't turn into neon highlighter green.

Sorry for hijacking question for expert with stripe green Haddoni. Will the stripe green Haddoni turn into a solid green or stay stripe? Thanks
