i have question about certain fishes, i recently setup my first big tank other than nanos, ( a 55g ) and its an open top tank. i want to pick up different anthias, chromis, 2 tangs. i have never really kept fish, its always been about the corals for me, so its unnerving to step into new territory. also i wanted to know if i put a sohal and an achilles tang together in at the same time will they be compatible? any help would be appreciated. thanks!

All fish can and will jump given the right circumstances. Just a piece of advice...A 55 would not be big enough for any of the tangs that you spoke of.

All fish can jump. Your tank is not large enough for any tangs let alone an Achilles Tang which is an advanced fish, or a Sohal tang which requires a tank about 6 times larger than what you will be providing. Read the RC guideline for tangs and read this forum for information about other fish.

i bought two black percula clowns about three years ago. one fish jumped, & died about a year ago, then the other one jumped about a month ago.....

my flame hawkfish jumped & died.

Some fish are more prone to jumping. Any fish may jump if being harrassed or spooked. I had a Valentini puffer who jumped twice. Luckily both times I was right there, although technically it was the hand in the tank that spooked him - I learned to be really careful around him.

Anyway anthias are definitely prone to jumping - I wouldn't know about the chromis or tangs.

I had a scopas jump after a year and a half of no problems. Nobody was home when it happened, so something in the tank must have spooked it. All tanks are covered now.
