Just trying to see what everyone uses. I have does some reading and found a few things about every brand I can buy. Maybe I should say, what are some good brands of salt for reefs?

I have found Instant Ocean gives me the most consistent results, followed by Kent Marine, but others may have their favorites. You can check out this link for some discussions, if you want to get really geeky, you can read this article.

you can't go wrong with IO. so many tanks for so many years have been golden on it. though it does have low magnesium, which i'm trying to stay on top of these days and since it's so expensive to boost Mg i'm thinking of switching, either to kent (lots of big names say good things about it), oceanic (ran it before and loved it at first but then had a weird algae that i blamed on it at the time but was probably unrelated), or maybe even try the seachem reef salt since i really like seachem products in general. there's an asian import salt called oceanpure or something like that, that is becoming really popular on the west coast where it's available. works good and is really cheap if i've heard things correctly. i was interested in trying tropic marin for a while, but after seeing the latest salt study, i don't really see how it's much different from IO other than being alot more expensive.

the only salts i would *never* use are crystal sea, coralife, and red sea.

IO all the way. It's available pretty much anywhere and I haven't found anything better for the $$. If it's missing an element I find it cheaper to add the element than searching for a "complete" salt. There may be some slightly better salts out there, but it's too hard to find them when you need them.

I used Oceanic for a while. It mixes really fast. I use IO now as its cheaper and easier to find.

IO. I did use oceanic for a while and found it to have really high Mg but I think it was a little low on alkalinity

I used Tropic Marin for over two years, itn got very hard to find and with the shipping price going up I changed to IO. It dosen't mix as well as tropic marin but the $ over comes the speed.
