does anyone know what kind of mantis shrimp saltwaterfish.com is sold as the GREEN MANTIS SHRIMP? they dont have a pic but if any ordered or can tell the kind from that. it says its an inch long.
thanks and please answer asap.

Im not trying to be rude or flame, but wouldnt it be easier to email them, call them or even post on the saltwaterfish.com forum??

If it's expensive, it's probably a Peacock Mantis Shrimp, or Odontodactylus scyllarus. It could also be the common solid green ones like you find in live rock and don't want in your reef tank.

If you want one of those just post a WTB thread: Wanted! Hitchhiker Mantis Shrimp! Someone will probably give one to you gladly.

GOOD LUCK!!!:D

I've been trying that route for 3-4 months now and still haven't found someone willing to ship me one for less than $60+!:(

My LFS won't order one for me, they actually try to talk me out of getting one........

Really? I remember there used to be "mantis: free to good home" threads in the selling forums and IIRC the mantis forum. Seamed like it was all the time. Maybe keep an eye out for someone trying to catch and kill a mantis in their reef and offer to pay them to ship it to you. Priority mail should get it to you ok seeing as they tend to make it through cycles and all.

hey ecugman u still dont have a mantis i got 1 more lol i no a guy thats selling some cool ones but shipping is like 40-50 i think

Nope, still no luck!:(

A couple of people have offered to sell me one but they were on the west coast and I was concerned about shipping priority mail that far...

I'm willing to pay $15-20 for shipping (priority?), but not $50.

I'm sure it will happen soon, but that empty tank is KILLING ME!

I just noticed that ecugman was from Greenville, NC. They have a local group called NCFRAG that trades corals and has meetings and stuff like that. It's a local club - you probably have one near you.

Ecugman, have you asked around over at NCFRAG?

No, I haven't. Good idea, I'll post over on their board.

I think the ncfrag group is based out of the Triangle are (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill), I've never meet with them as I'm mostly a FOWLR guy.
