does nano just apply to the show tank size? because lets say you've got a 10gal show tank with a 90 gal sump, is it still concidered a nano?

im planing on a pair of 15 gallon AG tanks side by side ( 10 inches apart) on a stand, then a common 55 gal sump in the stand with maybe a 10 gal fuge with a cutout of the stand to see the fuge. I will light the tanks with 4 HO T5s on each 15 gal tank, in the sump ill have a coralife 220 skimmer.
am i gona be a nano'er or?

reverse it use the 90 and then the 2 15's as the sump and poof you're not a nano anymore....i see that making more sence...

I agree, getting a concensus on the question posed is going to be difficult. My 2 cents?? Nano, by standards going back 15 to 20 years, is probably anything less than about 20 gals, but perhaps just as impressive as reefing in such tiny spaces is doing it VERY LOW tech, inexpensive, and simple, and having a large sump kinda violates that rule.

of course I'm not an official on the topic but to add some perspective ... Can many of us here remember not too long ago when NO ONE would have recommended setting up a reef in anything less than a 75 gallon, and that was probably going to be a failure if you didn't have $500 worth of skimmers, $1500 worth of lights and do 25% water changes every 10 days, and NO fish???

How attitudes have changed.

...I just did a broad search of 'nano' defined in terms of SW tanks...

Consensus is that they're 20g and less...
