I live way south and the biggest reason I have not joined is the ride.

i second that....schamburg is an hour+ ride for me, one way!

i will have to if the south library has the same as napervillie for rooms and such...

The only problem with plotting membership is that you will likely end up with it centering around schaumberg----simply because that is where the meetings are held, and from the sounds of it more people close by will sign up.

So I'm not sure that would help in determining where "the reefers are" :)

I think the key is someone taking the lead in finding an alternate location and booking it. I can empathize with those that are far south and far west ...you can take a vote, but it seems taking action is the real hump to get over.
I'm in the near west suburbs and happen to like the Schaumburg location, so in a vote that is what I cast mine for....but if a few meetings got moved I'd still attend.
(p.s. NR....I got all excited about the shedd thig for a second there too...lol)

...car pooling is not a bad idea either... a couple of us are already doing that. In fact if anyone else from the near west area of OPRF wants to join in I'll break out the mini van. .....plus then you get more reef geek chat during the drive time, it's like an extended meeting.

my suggestion would be that all those that live in chicago or surrounding suburbs create a chapter of the main CMAS club so that those in the southern and western suburbs could have a second option. The meetings could be on the 2nd weekend so that if one wanted they could attend both. just my thoughts.
I currently do not attend CMAS meetings because saturdays tend to be a busy day in my line of work.
