My reflector should be showing up tomorrow. so right now i have running 3-175 mh 20,000k XM bulb with NO flos, with the new reflector and canopy i made i was thinking about switching to 10,000k bulbs, and i have my new VHO's for actinic. So i was wondering what mh bulb to get? I was thinking XM 10,000 . And by the way i should join GIRS, i been to lazy to do it. So do i send a check or do with my new fish tank super platium credit card? THANKS WAYNE

Ive have not used many 175W bulbs, but I don't like either the 250 or the 400W XM 10K's, to much yellow. I do like the look of certain 10k's, I am currently using a 250W DE Aqualine Buske 10K. If you want to go 10K, look at either the Aqualine Buske or Ushio. Another option may be the 14K Ushio. JMO

The 20,000k is to blue for my taste, and i want to get more growth of my sps. i will check in to that, i just didn't want to spend a fortune on them, being I'm buying 3 halides and 2- 6' VHOS

Iwasaki 15ks have the best stats. I have never seen them in person, but they appear to be a pure white.

I personally like the xm 10ks

Reeflux 10ks would also be another good choice. They are all quality bulbs.

I had good luck with the Reeflux bulbs as well, but I think they are more dependent on ballast type then some other bulbs. They are bluer with electronic ballasts.

Glaspie69 i have 3-XM's 20,000 on there now with NO fluoresents, so basically, nothing in the daylight range, i just wanted to get everyone's opinion, i'm leaning hard towards XM 10,000 or ushio 10,000k

I would say try the Iwasaki 15ks, I don't think your going to like the xm 10k's they were always very yellow for me.

I had 2- Hamilton 10K's (175W) and liked them (on my 75gal). SPS coral grew like crazy. But as we all do, I started experimenting with other bulbs... (a year ago I switched to Ushio 14K's and liked them.. but it seemed the coral went into a holding pattern, and lights were "blue." Now, about 2 weeks ago, I switched to the XM20K's. I was surprised that they weren't as "blue" as the Ushio 14's. I know it's only been two weeks, but I think my corals are responding to them. Some of my coral that had lost color, seems to be getting it back.)

Anyhow, back to the point of you're wanting 10K's... maybe check out Coralvue bulbs? I believe last month's (maybe it was this month's) tank of the month winner, swears by them.

I do agree with you though, that if you go with the 10K's turn your flo's into actinic. Although, you might want to look at the "double blue" bulbs from hello lights dot com. When I went to the 20K's I changed to their double blue for my power compacts and really like the color, as it doesn't appear (to me) to be as blue as the actinics.

Good luck and let us know what you decide. (Happy Anniversary, too!)

Thanks Ziggy and SnkyJake, i like my xm 20,000 175 watt bulbs but i just want more daylight withmore sps growth,i went with 250 watt or 400 watt xm 20,000k i would get more growth. But i'm not prepared to do that yet. I installed my new reflector in my new canopy today, only thing i'm waiting on now is more $$$ for my bulbs, because i'm ordering them all at once.. (5)of them

i have the xm 10k 175s and they are white as heck if you ask me.

i cant see any yellow at all, maybe the 175s are different than the 250-400s, but no yellow.

in the future im going to try a 14k or 15k so i can get away from the supplements.
if someone would give me an idea how to post pics ill put a couple up here. seems im having trouble posting in the right format.

That's good news somebody likes the xm's , you might try using photobucket, i'm sorry i drank to much tonight and can't remember how to post a pic... sorry , that and tired.....
