What mysis?

Just wondering what mysis every feeds to their seahorses. Do you stick to one brand or try others? Myself, I feed mostly hikari, but occasionally PE. I have also tried SFB and H20 Mini-mysis, but it usually comes to broken up for my seahorses to be really enthusiastic about it.

So what does everyone use? Do different horses like different mysis types?

I stick soley with PE Mysis. The shrimp are big and mostly whole. Also, less phosphates....etc and easier to rinse due to size. I was originally using SF brand cubes. (prior to seahorses)

I feed mostly Hykari to my adults. I feed PE to the fry on and off and I also use the H2O when I am training fry to frozen.

Another pleased Hykari user here. I just let it sit in the salt water seperate for 5 minutes prior to feeding and it falls apart and you get probably 95% full shrimp if you're careful.

My seahorses tend to only go for bigger substantial stuff to begin feeding, and they'll pick off the smaller bits towards the end.

PE Mysis all the way. My adult Erectus just sit and stare at the rather small mysis Hikari uses. I've tried other brands...San Fran, H20, etc. Very few whole shrimp and what are whole are tiny or very mushy when thawed.

I use both PE and hikari... PE every day, and hikari most days. However, my reason for this is that I feed my sun corals every day and use hikari for that. Since my SHs can't stand for me to have their turkey baster in the tank without me feeding them, they get hikari once a day.

the reason the SH get the occasional PE feeding is because we typically have it on hand to feed our bearded ghoul, so the SH get the occasional bonus.

I usually use PE for horses, because the horses I have had are usually quite picky about having whole shrimp, and PE is really good about suppling whole shrimp. I've bought SF mysis flat packs before, and it was like buying mysis soup -- no one wanted to eat that. I've also had seahorses that would only eat frozen if I placed each mysis in front of them, and the PE are easier to handle that way.

PE thawed slowly is the best option

put some tank water in a cup
cup in fridge
then add the mysis to colder water and let them thaw in fridge

then bring it out the frigs and pure out the extra water,

(I add additives at this point but optional) and let it thaw more and 15 mins later its ready to be fed to horses and all the pieces are left as hole, and none of the proteins are lost to the water (well most of it are preserved is a better way of saying it)

I used to put the mysis in a cup full of tank water and shake it till it gets thawed, BUT that used to release the proteins inside the mysis ... . so I stopped.

And upon researching it seems PE isn't even available here in Aus, well that sucks was keen to give it a try...

None of those brands are available here in the Netherlands. I make do with a Ruto brand, Dutch Mysis or my own DIY frozen. Live Mysis cost me €2.50 per portion. It roughly equal out to 1-1/2 pack of 100gram blister pack @ €2.95.

I gut load them with different thing & freeze them.

You can't beat live ones gut loaded with nauplii or something similar. They are a little pricey but since I do this for a living I make the purchasing department buy them for me
