so you added 50# of LR and then added more live stock within the same month? thats just asking for all sorts of problems. now also your changing salt brands? i don't think it's a fact but i see lots of threads of people having major problems with switching salt so suddenly

also if this $500 protein skimmer is a POS why are you trying to sell it to someone else? do you just not know how to use it??

I put the LR in a QT tank before I added it to the main taink to make sure that any die off happened else where then put it in the main tank. I had it for a month is a 35 gal trash can with powerheads in there and checked it every day. And honestly I dont know how to use that protein skimmer. Didnt get any intructions with it. I wish I had. I am not sure what wrong with it bot know that it needs a beter pump that I have gotten for it. I feel like it has cost me $500. I have bought 3 different pump for it and they are all too small or something. No one has explained how I am to go about making it work. It acts like it wants to work but then doesnt. I was wondering about it cycling again after I added the LR but the guys at the LFS said that it wouldnt that I hadnt finshed completely cycling until 6 months hit. Also I bought the LR off the internet cause they charge way too much at the LFS here. I think I am beginning not to like my LFS cause they charge so much lol. Other than that I do like them but some of them are idiots lol. Capn I am gonna look at that thread and see what that ones all about. I need some info about how to make the protein skimmer work also please please please. Thanks again any more advise would be great.

What brand is the skimmer? Maybe, someone here can help. Or post a pic. Call the manuf. or check their website. Just some suggestions.

Its an ASM G-1. I have decided not to sell it and see if I can make it work with what I have right now. Its cost me too many headaches for it to get away with it lol.

lol no I didnt. I just feel like I put over $500 into it. I paid $200 for it then found out that the pump was broken when I got it. I have put 3 different pumps on it since then. Like I said I just feel like I have lol. I can use 2 of the pump/powerheads in my freshwater if the ones in there go out or in the salt if something goes out there. So thats not a big deal. But the last one I got I cant. Here is another question. How deep should the protein skimmer be and should I have water going in both where the pump goes and where the pipe goes up on it? Thanks again for being patient with me. The protein skimmer isnt a pos. I am jsut getting frustrated cause I can figure it out and I am one of those people that want to figure everything out. Just at my auto mechanic lol. He hate it when I come in cause I hang over his shoulder trying to find out what hes doing. He prefers it when my husband brings our truck in lol. Thanks again guys.

I read on another thread you started Allanira that the original pump it came with did not work and you tried three other pumps. If that pump didn't work, you should have contacted the seller and eBay to right the situation. eBay doesn't take kindly to selling broken parts. What other pumps did you try?? I doubt Rio makes a pump that would meet your skimmers criteria. I would forget about running the Rio + on it.

Also in the other thread you throw us under the bus and say that we are calling you an idiot, Click here . Everyone here is trying to help you. I re-read the posts above and see no indication of people calling you names. Responses like that will get you zero responses to your questions.

We answered your questions on how to solve your parameter issues. Nobody criticized you at all.

I tried a Maxijet 1200 and it didnt work. Not enough air I think, the Rio 8+, and (crap what was that first one I tried? lol) I think it was a Maxijet 600. I would have to go through all my fish stuff and my husband through it all into a closet except my chemicals I have. He got tired of me leaving everything out lol. It was someone else that made me feel really small by saying that basicly I was an idiot if I was still trying to get this skimmer working and not getting a new one. That person was a jerk and most people on here are really quite nice. Trust me it wasnt anyone one here or on the 3rd thread I started. It was someone on the second thread I started over the last couple days. No worries though. I am just lettin it roll off like water on a ducks back lol. Like I said dont take that personally. No coffee yet that early. Hadnt gotten my blood going and that person just rubbed me wrong. Sorry if I made anyone feel bad I didnt mean too.

I really do appreciate all the help that i have gotten over the last couple days. I am in the process of trying to find the right pump for this skimmer now then hopefully when I get it everything will return to normal lol. If anyone knows where I can find a Sedra 2500 pump I would really appreciate hearing about it. Thank you again and I really appreciate all the info here. I am in the process of doing another water change right now. Just gotta let that water sit for a bit before I try doing anything right now. Thank you again.

Granted this skimmer was an ASM G-2 or G-3, you can see the modifications i did to it. I made it into a recirculating skimmer. The pic doesn't show the gate valve though. I had the skimmer a short time before I decided to go back the the MRC product line.

You could also do the old Snailman DIY airstone skimmer... A pain but they really do work!!

Ok everyone. I will be getting my protein skimmer pump this Thursday. I just wanted to thank everyone for the help that y'all have been. I am about to go get some RO/DI water from the LFS here. Its gonna get expensive lol. But hey I want my tank to be healthy. Do y'all think a 14gal water change will be ok? Thats what I am about to do. I ahve 2 7gal containers that I am going to get filled then bring them back and make up 5 gals at a time. I only have 1 5 gal bucket now. Hubby took the others for chicken feed lol. Oh well guess I am gonna have to get some more incase I have to take everything out of this tank and set up a new bigger one lol. Thank you again.
