What pad for under the pump?

Hello,

What kind of pads to you use for under the pump to dampen the noise? Is it really necessary?
I'm currently setting up a system with an eheim return pump, and as it stands now it's sitting on the acrylic bottom of the sump.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I spread a layer of silicone about 1/4" thick on some saran wrap, or aluminum foil, spread it as big as you need, then wait for it to dry. Peel it off and then you have a sheet of silicone, you can put that underneath your pump and it will dampen the noise.

With an eheim I doubt you will need it if you plumb it right;) I have nothing under mine and can't hear it at all. No vibrations etc...

Hop, good to hear that eheims are quiet pumps!

Mfinn, thanks, that was exactly what I was thinking. I already have a silicon hot plate thing from Safeway that I was thinking of using. It's Ferrari red.

Apex and Vanmo thanks for the suggestions it looks like I'm on the right track with silicone!

I was having a problem with my Quiet One submersible sump pump vibrating. This may sound ghetto, but I had some silicone airline tubing laying around, so I tied one end of it around the pump, and fastened the other end of it against the cieling of my cabinet. The pump is in effect dangling into the sump like it's on a bungee cord but ZERO vibrations.

we had someone else ask the same question a few weeks back, one suggestion was a computer mousepad, i was suprised by this as i wondered if the material would be a problem with water parameters, well aparently not according to some of the guys who have used one, so basically based on their experience this sounds like a good option, they are cheap and im sure would do the job, personally i dont have noise problems but perhaps im lucky:)
