What phosphate remover works best?

Is there a phosphate and silicate remover that works better than the rest? It seems like there are many choices.

I recently just added Two TLF Reactors to my system... I believe (using advice from Melev of course) that it is much better than just dumping bags of media in the sump...

Good stuff from bulkreefsupply.com - cheapest I could find. From what I've read it's all pretty much the same stuff (GFO).

I wish the search feature always worked as there is many a poll on what everyone uses, but my flavor would be phosar...not the hc stuff, im too cheap :)

It's all ferrious oxide (rust) right?
Is there a problem with "just dumping a bag of media in the sump"? What makes a reactor so much better?

The reactor allows water to pass over EVERY granule instead of some water just pouring over a lump of GFO.

I use the GFO from bulkreefsupply

this combination has worked wonders for me:

i'll ask this in here, not trying to thread jack....

so i have a 150 gram jug of phosban.... i have a reactor.

my tank is 29 gallons and i have i'd guess around 35-36 gallons total of water in my system.

it says use50 grams per 50 gallons for salt water.

i'm guessing i should measure this out somehow and basically put about 40 grams in my phosphate reactor correct?

i just want to be safe.

thanks

I use ROWAphos inside of the TLF [two little fishies] phosban reactor.
Works miracles.
Or you could buy in bulk at twopartsolutions.com and get Granular Ferric Oxide [GFO]

I just recently started using Brightwell Aquatics Phosphat-R with noticeable results. We had a new LFS open in the area and they were doing a buy one get one free offer on all Brightwell products so I figured I'd give it a shot since I was in the market for a remover anyway. It's got some benefits that others don't. For one, it's not iron based. Another is it won't leach back into the system once it's reached it's absorbtion limit (supposidly). Also, it can be regenerated, but you have to buy another product for that. It's very fine though... so fine that it will migrate past the sponges in most reactors.

How often do you need to change out that carbon ?
(I think it's carbon??)

carbon --every two weeks

phosban--every two months

some reefers wrong both in the same reactor--layer of carbon then a layer of phosban on top(it has to be on top so it can heave at little to maintain maximum contact with the water

same problem I have wiith my 30 gal tank--I just put a third of the can or jar in the reactor--by eye--not even measuring.

if you put to much in the only harm is to your pocketbook--just wasting it.
As long as the phosban is slightly heaving in the reactor then none is going past the filters and in to your tank
