What region of the world produces the Nicest Zoanthids?

Where do all of these crazy morphs come from?

My LFS carry Indo bali vietnam and NEVER have the crazy zoas and palys.

Where are the craziest morphs coming from? Mars?

they're blah here in the marshall islands. i seen some nice morphs in bali last time in the water. its all a crapshoot when collecting. you cant see what you got till later on, esp if you're down deep and all the colors are washed out.

I think they come from a variety of places including indo it's just that the wholesalers cherry pick the best of the best out and sell it at a premium to certain z and p specialists that then in turn sell to the public and a very marked up profit.

Why not bring a flashlight or some other light source with you so you can get an idea of the color before collecting?

I have seen several from Taiwan and they can be very nice from there but again it depends on your LPS connection levels...

From what I heard when living in Bali, they don't collect there. The two main reef sites are MPAs.

Keep in mind too that it does not take much to get them to change their coloring. You can force color changes with different lighting setups. I often get a new Zoa or Paly and split the frag in 2 or 3. I put some under bright LEDs...some under the frag rack in very shaded lighting and some in full light but out of the direct LED lighting. I almost always end up with 3 different color schemes. They respond so differently. It's why I wont pay a fortune for coral...you can shift it SOOOO much with flow....lighting....chemicals and feeding. The real trick is to get good at finding the crap frags with a hint of something....buying it cheap....taking it home...and making it beautiful. Thats how I like to play the game.
