what salt mix is reccomended?

THIS IS WHY YOUR CAL AND ALK IS LOW

THIS IS WHY YOUR CAL AND ALK IS LOW

When you get saltwater from a fish store they pre make it to 1.022 usually and then your are recommended to adjust accordingly. the gravity should be between 1.024-1.026 if it is 1.026 its ok because sps during low tides the salinity goes up when th etide goes out. doenst hurt to have an over abundance of minerals as well. You should have salt to mix at home with. I was using tropic marin and then i moved to reef crystals by Instant ocean. I think i saw a little bit of improvement. I am still testing this to make sure. my next big water chage will be with tropic marin to prove this theory

i use the instant ocean/oceanic 50/50 mix and it seems to be working good. but then again i have nothing in my tank but liverock so i dont know how corals would take it. But my CA is 420, alk is 9, mag is 1330, and pH is 8.1

You have the exact same fish in two different tanks?
Yes, and that is because I upgraded from the 55g to the 90g, but used the same regimen for both tanks. The 55g tank was TOTM on UltimateReef.net which was about 2 years ago.

For pictures I use the Kodak Easyshare Z700. It has a great macro mode for closeups, and takes really nice pictures overall.

They key is to play with your exposure compensation. I set mine to -1.5 or -2.0 depending on what kind of shot I am taking. This lets less light in by closing the shutter more quickly at 1.5 to 2 full steps. You will have to look at the specs on your camera and see what you must do to achieve this. I also take like 100-150 pictures at a time and then pick out the best 4-5 pictures. I use the picture burst, which takes like 4-6 pictures consecutively while holding the camera very still. So I get a bunch of pictures to choose from a particular shot and I take the same picture burst shot like 3-4 times which gives me like 12-15 pictures to choose from of a particular shot. Not a lot of pics turn out as a fish might take off really quick and be blurred, but every now and then you get some spectacular pictures. Here are a couple of my best pictures. The last two pictures are of my most recent tank. This is a 4mp camera, and I have it set at 3.5mp to be 4x6 shots so I don't have to crop if I want to print some 4x6 pics.
