What salt should I be using?

When I first started 2 years ago, I was using Oceanic. 8 months ago I switched to Reef Crystals. I was using these for their higher calcium/mineral content for my reef. Since then I have added a calcium reactor (with dolomite) and a kalk reactor. Do I need to continue using the Reef Crystals or can I switch over to something like Instant Ocean (who makes Reef Crystals BTW)? I would think that the 2 reactors should provide the neeeded calcium/minerals the reef needs and the IO is about half the price of RC or other "high end" salts like Tropic Marin.

I guess I am asking what you successful reefers are using for salt?

Thanks
Chris

I have a dual chamber calcium reactor myself. I offed the kalk reactor because I felt that it really wasn't doing me any good and it was just one more piece of equipment that I needed to watch.

Even with the calcium reactor I still use Oceanic salt because if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've run the gamut over the years and I've settled on Tropic Marin.

I've done IO, Kent, Crystal Seas, Oceanic and never been ecstatic with any of them. TM is the only one I don't have any complaints with.

I have always used IO for my fish-only tanks. When I started playing with reefs, I switched over to RC because I didn't want to play with adding Calcium to new saltwater before water changes. I believe IO is at 380 and RC is 450.

I believe that Instant Ocean also make Reef Crystals.

They are both made by Aquarium Systems.

ME too!

TM is the only thing I'll use.

I've used RC in the very bigining, 3 yrs ago I swiched to IO until now I dont see any difference. I think , because I'm using super large Reactor 3' total hight 8" in diameter, since I added dolomite again things just super stable. I think I would make another reactor tied in w/ the old one, this is going to be dedicated to Dolomite alone see what happens.:) .................PEACE

Rod sells it for $70.00. So not only do you get the salt, but you can learn a great deal and find some nice corals to boot.

Tropic Marin until recently...trying seachem reefsalt out...so far so good. It mixes better than any salt we've used before.

I too really like the seachem reef salt. I have used all of the others mentioned here and was tired of having to add things. The seachem is the best mixing salt that I've ever seen.

What's the difference between TM & TM PRO?

TM Pro Ca levels higher and higher alk. Also, I think Mg is a little higher, as the last bath I made was 1450 ppm 24 hours after initial mixing.

So since I'm problems w/both (Ca & alk) & no drip system, I guess I should use the PRO? Or will the regular TM help me out enough, since I'm now using RC?

I've been using Tropic Marin for longer than I can remember, will be using the TM pro for the first time in a week or 2.
